Art like Nature

As I've been growing as a person and artist, it's become increasingly clear that at a very base level we grow parallel to nature. When a flower doesn't get enough sunlight or water, it wilts and withers, while when we humans don’t receive enough love or care we too wilt and wither. The energy that exists between the two is too strong to ignore, and my art pushes to make this clear to others in a digestible form. In saying that, my work changes and evolves as I do, but the vast majority of my work depicts a combination of human forms (mostly female), botanical elements, and an overall presence of magical energy. My art exists primarily in acrylic paint and watercolor, mostly due to the ways each medium behaves. Acrylic is quick-drying and easy to repaint and reconstruct while watercolor is fluid and open to constant change. Dancing between the two mediums has led me to clearly expressing my thoughts and emotions through artistic means.

With my art, I want to create a universe that feels safe and open to change. When I start a new painting, each one often stems from a small piece of imagery that’s captured my attention. Whether it be a color scheme, a simple pose or gesture, or even a feeling, an artwork can begin to form. I use these simple jumping-off points to create paintings that seem to grow on their own once I begin working. I tend to not fully understand what each painting means or how it will look until it's completely done, leaving an element of surprise even to myself. I desperately want others to see my art and relate to the figures within them, finding pieces of themselves within each work. I urge you to explore each piece, process the feelings that emerge, and continue to reach for change within yourself.
